Transferring to Queens College
If you’re thinking of transferring, you’re not alone: Today, about a third of all undergraduates start their academic career at one college and continue it at another. Transcripts from high school and all previous colleges must be submitted. There is no fee for currently enrolled CUNY students; candidates from other schools are charged $70.
Students who have earned fewer than 30 credits need a 2.75 GPA in college work and must meet the admission requirements for a first-time freshman – see profile here. Students with 30 or more credits must have a 2.50 GPA calculated from all colleges attended. Students who have been awarded an associate degree from a community college or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution will be admitted with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.
In addition, all prospective transfers need to be University Skills Proficient.

Honors & Scholarships
Queens College has divisional honors programs in the humanities, math and natural sciences, and social sciences that are available to incoming transfer students. Prospective math teachers may qualify for scholarships and other incentives through Queens College’s innovative math education program, TIME 2000. Business and Liberal Arts, another Queens College initiative, familiarizes students with basic business disciplines; it’s designed for top-performing underclassmen, regardless of their major. Queens College also has a Transfer Honors Program, offering scholarships, dedicated advising, and cohort classes to qualified students. Begin the application process for scholarships using this form. Scholarships
Each fall, Queens College offers merit-based scholarships to full-time transfer students, with awards of half New York State tuition for two years. These awards may cover a significant part of the tuition for both in-state and out-of-state residents.
Minimum requirements to apply for Transfer Honors Program scholarships are:
- GPA of 3.5 or higher and 50+ credit hours towards an AA, AS or BA degree for $1,000/per semester
- GPA of 3.7 or higher and 60+ credit hours towards an AA, AS or BA degree for scholarships ranging from half-tuition to full-tuition (NY in-state tuition)
- A supplemental application including an essay and a writing sample
- At least one teacher recommendation
- Completion of freshman and sophomore level prerequisites in the intended major (2-4 courses as appropriate)
- Coursework in all of the following areas: composition, humanities, social sciences, math, laboratory and physical sciences
- Students already enrolled at Queens College are not eligible to apply

Transfer Credit Evaluation
If a course was taken on a pass/fail basis at another institution, the official transcript must state that the pass grade equals a C- or better for transfer credit to be considered.
Transfer credits evaluated as “499” courses are generally considered electives and may not be counted toward major or minor requirements without department approval.
